Thanks Joe. Inserting a CALC sheet to display one cell is a Kludge. I ought to be able to do it in a Writer field which presents its result as text in the paragraph, and therefore picks up all the paragraph formatting, and flows with the paragraph etc. etc. It looks like I can't. The list of functions available in a writer field formula needs extending. Doug is right (elsewhere in this thread) in saying that what you can do in a calc cell you ought to be able to do in a writer field, or a writer table cell. (After all OOo is a true office suite not a collection of separate programs) But even Lotus Word Pro did not manage that!
