Hi OO Folks,
First I want to thank all the people who have contributed to the
creation of OpenOffice. What a stellar job you have done. Bravo! I had
no idea it included such a nifty drawing package.
(Sung to the tune of "The Ballad of Jed Clampett")
Come and listen to my story about a man named Rob
Tryin' ta spellcheck his resume and then to find a job
Sittin' at his computer a'typing out in Word
But when the spellcheck failed he would not be deterred
(Foiled that is, discouraged, that kind of thing)
Well the first thing you know ol' Robs found open source
With OpenOffice installed he's set a brand new course
But when spellchecked failed again it was quites a smack
So he tried NeoOffice on a Power Mac
(Apple Mackintosh that is, Cinema display, Tiger OS)
I could go on but the folks in the next cubical are probably wondering
what that song is your singing.
Anyway, to make an already long story short, OpenOffice 1.1.4 but the
spell check failed on the same Word document. It failed by saying
"Spellcheck Complete" when there is a misspelled word in the doc. I then
installed NeoOffice/J 1.1 and the same thing happened. I then tried
saving the file in OpenOffice format; same result.
Next I copied everything from the file to the clipboard and then pasted
it into NotePad to remove all the formatting. Then I pasted the text
from NotePad into a new OpenOffice Writer document. Now the spellcheck
works so I conclude that there is something in the Word document that
makes the spell checker fail and this something is not eliminated by
saving in the new format.
Should I file a bug? The reason I ask is because I filed a bug report on
something else that turned out to be poor reading comprehension on my
part. I don't want to do that again so I thought I'd post here and see
if anyone knows if this is a known issue. (I just want back and tried
all of this and the problem is repeatable.)
Peace, Love, Laughter,
Rob:-]
