Which brings the discussion full circle.  The point is that while 
between them, draw and writer offer an impressive set of facilities 
(and certainly vastly more than I need for home use), the division of 
these facilities between them does mean that some jobs are "not 
obvious" and need tedious workaraounds while a very few are impossible.

So, to summarize, if you want a full set of fields, use writer - but 
don't expect good graphics facilities.  If you want full graphics 
facilities, don't expect any database support.  At least, not without 
jumping through hoops.

My issue is that there seems no particularly good reason for at least 
some restrictions - types of insert fields in draw, for instance. While 

some superficially identical entities (eg differently inserted 
graphics) have very different properties.
