It sounds like you need to reinstall OO2. If you have alien and use .deb
packages, I'd suggest you follow the instructions here:
http://installation.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=609
Download the latest build 1.9.m118 and follow the directions up to and
including # /opt/openoffice1.9.51/program/pkgchk --shared (you get
'pkgchk done.')
The remaining stuff seems out of date. This is what I do and it's always
worked for me.

Thank you very much Jonathan. Just a very basic question, the answer of which I wish I could understand once and for all. When I unzip the file and turn it into a .deb file. Where should I place this file in order to install it correctly. Do I do this in the /home directory or under /usr/bin ? In windows I know that all programmes will automatically install into the c:/program files directory. Linux seems to have more options? I just want to do the install so that it is most integrated in the sytem.
