I didn't say I wanted to go back to the '286 processor, but at least the
major word processor (Word Star) that that ran on the 286 didn't try to
guess what I wanted to type. 1/2 means 1/2 not the one-half symbol and 1/1
means 1/1 and not 1/1/2005. No user should have to go through the extra
steps for it to display it the way you typed it. It is just a bad design,
IMHO. Too much like Microsoft Office. Too much feature creep. I come from
the vi and emacs days using terminals and telnet sessions. Not bad; it gets
the job done w/o much fanfare.
