You can probably safely ignore this earlier reply. I've now had a second cup of coffee, read it again, and can see it doesn't answer the question.

Whether your problem it is a bug in OOo is determined by if it can be reproduced on another system. I can't do it here using either 1.9.122 or 1.1.4 on W98, don't recall ever seeing something like it, and conclude that OOo isn't the cause but rather a vehicle to expose the symptom.

I suggest you start with running the installation program again. This time select "Repair". If that doesn't correct the behavior, the next stage is to Remove and Re-install OOo. If you haven't de-fragged your disk drive for awhile, do that in between the Removal and re-installation.

In general, problems of this type are caused by the specific computer system and are not errors in OOo. If it were a problem in OOo, then lots of users would be reporting it.

I have a curious problem, and i was wondering if it is a bug or if there is something extra I need to do. It is more a nuisance than a major problem. I often have two Calc documents open at once. One document has a list of important information, which I can then cut and paste where needed in the other document. I have noticed that when I switch from one document to the other and click on a cell, the outline normally does not appear. I can still do the cut and paste, but the cells I select do not shadow as I select them, so I have to be careful to make sure I am dragging my cursor over the correct cells. Is this a known issue? Is there something specific I have to do to tell Calc that I really want it to consider the other document the active page? [I searched the knowledge base, but I was unable to find anything related.]
 Thanks!

Whether or not the grid lines are displayed is a document property which is saved with the document. You apparently turned off the grid lines in one document. You will find the setting for this feature under
Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org Calc > View
