not sure you really need to send them to Mexico -- there are lots of
organizations in the US that could use an "old" computer or two set
up with little more than a web browser (try churches and senior
centers) or Goodwill! -- if you feel like getting really involved,
putting together an ltsp network for a local library, YMCA etc. --
you can probably find a couple of local business that would love to
get rid of their old computers too -- they might even be willing to
contribute some technical talent too!

If you get hold of older computers you can still use them or at
least stick linux on them, (say ltsp), and then perhaps send them
to less well off areas, I am sure there are such areas somewhere in
North America, or perhaps central and south america would certainly
welcome them,
Not sure how you would transport from NY to mexico, though, it's a
long way to drive. Not sure if you have the sort of environment
laws we do here in the EU but we here have to dispose of computers
properly, (due to chemicals within the boards etc), however many
perfectly good computers are skipped, and many of these would be
idea for the third world, esp running LTSP.
There has to be some charities in the USA that can help with this,
all you need is people with the abillity / time and willingness to
set things up, there are Lugs all over the world, so as long as
you can liase with a lug in say mexico, it should be possible to
sort things out, and send via a charity who have the transportation
to move things around.
Just an idea,

You *can* get a new 2.0 GHz machine for under $300. sub300.com,
walmart.com, Dell...
Walmart.com sells desktops, complete with CD-Rom, HD, etc. for under
$200. They don't have Windows, and they are just under 2.0 GHz, but
they work.
