Subject: [users] Recording Macros

I have recently loaded Open Office 1.1.4 on a Windows XP computer. I am trying to write macros in the spreadsheet, using the "Record Macros" function. I find that the recorded macros are not faithful to what is entered. Some desired steps are omitted, some are repeated. Is there something about this function which might not be obvious to a user accustomed to recording macros in Excel?

Thank you for any suggestions you can offer.

Ulrich Merten

I found that 1.1.4's macro recorder does NOT record activity that takes place within a dialog box. If you have not yet looked at the following, I feel that they are worth the time.

Free stuff:
Andy's Open Office Macro info: http://www.pitonyak.org/oo.php
StarOffice Basic Programmer's Guide: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-1826?q=StarOffice Links to some other sources of info: http://api.openoffice.org/TipsAndTricks/external.html

And worth the $:
"OpenOffice.Org Macros Explained", by Andrew Pitonyak. Available from the publisher or several different internet retailers.

I gave up on using the macro recorder for 1.1.4, and re-wrote my Excel macros in Basic, primarily using the "OOoME" book, and the various free items. Not easy, but it can be done!

Also, it will not notice when you change documents. For dealing with Calc macros, there is an improved macro recorder here:

I have not used it in a while, but it is much better than the standard.
