When you Search the help for 'placeholder', it finds 10 hits, among them
'Functions' (6th from top), which contains the following definition:
Placeholder: Inserts a placeholder field in the document, for
example, for graphics. When you click a placeholder field in the
document, you are prompted to insert the item that is missing.
BTW, the Help does not contain any index reference to this feature,
which might probably be an oversight...
I think that your description is mostly self explanatory....
Assume that I am writing my book and I think, "Hey, I need a picture
here.... I should add this later". So, I can add a placeholder field for
a picture. When I click on the place holder, it automatically opens a
dialog box that allows me to select the picture to insert. If I double
click on the field, then I can move between them to see how many I need
to add. Pretty cool I think...
