Gary,

Jonathon I think is on the right track. You need to enable kerning.  OOo
will do this for you but you have to know where to look so here goes:

     1. Open the Sylist and check the paragraph style that is in use.
        Maybe default.
     2. Highlight this style and right click
     3. select modify
     4. click the Position tab
     5. Check Pair kerning.
     6. Click OK

Now anything that has this paragraph style also has kerning enabled and
spacing between letters should be reduced to minimum. In your case, you
may have to change "office" to another font if this doesn't work.
