Make sure that you keep the list included in all emails - there are many others that can assist with your queries...
I believe you have to highlight the entire table in order for sort to work. Try it and reply to the list if it still doesn't work. As to paste special, once you have copied the text, open a blank writer document, then select edit > paste special ... select the appropriate option and then everything should be displayed without going 'off page'.
