Hmmm. So you're using 1.1.4? I'm using the 2.0 beta builds of OOo, so
sometimes I'll suggest functionality that isn't available in earlier
versions - apologies if I stuff people up by doing so.
So, John... what format did you select to paste as? Plain text? Sounds
peculiar :-/ If you selected Calc, it's probably stuck it in as an OLE
object or something? What happens when you right-click on the text
you've pasted in - any unusual options?
Temporary workaround - paste to Notepad (assuming you're using Windows)
and copy from there to paste into Writer. Other options - upgrade to 2.0
beta? Theoretically you should also be able to paste from a
spreadsheet, into a Writer table.
Does that help?

This is interesting. I used the ctrl-shift-v function. Note: Past Special
was a sub-menu option in calc, but not in writer, yet when I entered
ctrl-shift-v, a sub menu popped up for me to select the type of file to
write.
That was just an observation. The fun began when I found that I could not
edit (move text), but the cut/copy options on the right click menu or the
edit menu were grayed out. I then saved and closed the file, then re-opened
it with the same results.
