The workaround is to save the WPS files (which I assume are from
Microsoft Works) as RTF files. Then OOo can open them just fine,
although some formatting may be lost. Although there may be an open
source file converter for Works files that could do the job as a
batch, I am not aware of it. A commercial downloadable program that
might work is Amber Text Converter and there are probably others, but
I have no experience with any of them. Having been in the dog house, I
hope this helps.
