The file you should have downloaded is
OOo_1.1.4_Win32Intel_Install.zip. If you selected English as your
language, Windows as your operating system, and a U.S. location, you
got this file.
The first step is to check the md5sum of your download to make sure
it contains everything it is suppose to contain. This URL
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/using_md5sums.html
contains instructions on how to use md5sum.exe and a link to where it
can be downloaded. This link
http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.4/md5sums.html
contains the correct results for the md5sum.exe check. You need to use
the second line that ends with OOo_1.1.4_Win32Intel_install.zip.
The third step is to unzip the downloaded file. 7-zip.exe is often
mentioned as a good program to do this if you do not have an unzip
program (www.7-zip.com).
The fourth step is to read the setup_guide.pdf. It contains
instructions on how to install OOo on a windows O/S. Pay close
attention to page 27!
