Hi Cor,
It is quite easy to remove the password protection in MsOffice, but you
need some external software for it, a wealth of which can be found on
internet. I read about the very good password protection of Ooo.
Therefore I have been looking to it. I have tested my Excel spreadsheets
in Ooo 1.1.4 but that version can not handle them well.
When I saw the new beta version I immediately downloaded it and when I
tested my spreadsheets again I was very happy with the results.
But.... the password protection is even easier to remove than in Excel.
You simply save the *Ooo spreadsheet in Ooo* as an Excel spreadsheet and
you are done! I think this is very stupid! It makes the excellent
password protection useless.
I read in the document you point to:
"The export of a password protected document in MS Office format is not
supported in OO.org 2.0. Therefore we have to inform user, that the
document cannot be encrypted when saving in a MS Office format and *thus
the password protection of his data gets lost on saving the document*."
They have right-thinking created a bug out of politeness.
I have been looking for a macro to disable the Save As function for
other formats than the Ooo standard, but I think that is not adequate
because users can switch off that macro on opening the spreadsheet.
So I think I will have to raise an issue, hoping they will fix this bug
and hoping I can use Ooo2.0 for my spreadsheets. Look at www.bonamens.nl
if you want to know what I am doing.
Thanks for your help.
Greetings,
Jan van Aar
