I have been a proponent of OpenOffice for some time and have recommended it
to all my clients in the past. I have just loaded the new beta version and I
have to say I am very disappointed with it. After using it for five minutes
there are a number of things I find annoying enough that I will stop
recommending it to my clients in the future. It's as if you have no idea how
the average user is using this program. Two very simple but highly important
issues are setting page view and page margins. No one I know uses Print or
Web views. The standard Normal view from Word is the standard view with all
my clients. And setting page margins is as simple as going to print setup
and entering the in actual value. We can't use the mouse and cursor to set
the margin needed. We need an exact setting...a number...a value. And the
margins did not import from an old Word doc so every doc now has to have the
margins set graphically by hand? I don't think so. Not going to happen. We
would rather pay for a Word that do all this work.
