Thank again for the help Gerry, Right after I sent the email I found instructions for protecting my documents and resolved most of my issues. In my research I determined that I was not thinking, and was trying to use OpenOffice to protect a document that I was saving as .xls. That is why the checkbox was grayed out.
The only thing I am having trouble with now is I have been unsuccessful in setting OpenOffice's security to match the effect of Microsoft Office's Read-only feature (none of the documentation I have found, instructs the user on how to mimic this read-only feature). The only thing I have been able to figure out is how to set it so the document opens as read-only, but then all the user needs to do is click on the edit button and they can do so without a password. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this to work please let me know. Thank you, Robert >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 09/14/05 10:45 AM >>> On Wed, 2005-09-14 at 11:34 -0400, G. I would look at permissions and, like I said, check the JRE. (I say this because I am uncertain whether or not the encryption et cetera is Java dependent) [snipped] -- PLEASE KEEP MESSAGES ON THE LIST.
