Desktop icon? You're accessing these files via shortcuts?

If so, spec your folder in the shortcuts' Properties/Start In
field.

There's an alternate way to do this. Start by using templates
rather than files as templates. That way there's no Save As, with
it's possibility of overwriting the original. Problem is, OOo
respect the Start In spec when a template is involved. So you'll
have to do two things:
        1) use the system I previously gave you, with multiple 
           shortcuts.
        2) file an enhancement request.
