Amba, The behavior you are describing is not normal. It sounds like a windows issue (who am i to throw stones...), and the system was unstable after the crash. Did you try a simple reboot?
To uninstall, you can simply run the install program again, or use the MS add-remove programs program which is in the control panel. Deleting programs is not a good approach to removing programs on MS software. It will eventually cause troubles. In effect, your re-install probably cleaned up the OpenOffice deletion. But take the free advice - don't simply delete anymore. If you are happy with the "stable" version, great and be happy. But many people use the beta without issue, and many of us like the new UI and enhanced feature set. I'd suggest you do whatever you think will make you more productive - sometimes it is more important to get a job done than to optimize the tools (but sometimes the reverse is true too 8-).
