I downloaded open office and it immediately 'colonised' all my files.
It appears to have established itself as my default system.
How do I change this?

Well, you gave it a permission to do that at the time of installation. The present installation program specifically asks whether you want to do that or not. At the moment, the default is no. There has been a lot of debate about it being too vague on this issue. You can still open all files in their respective applications simply by opening the application and then opening the file in question within the application.

What we need is the version number of OpenOffice.org you have and the version of your operating system in order to help you. It is, I suppose, some version of Windows.
