Remember to set Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Open/Save to use OpenOffice.org dialogues or you amy find that saving to external servers is not possible. Also remember that the target server must be FTP/WEBDAV enabled and that you use a URL in this process. BTW, what is in the guides is what I gleaned when writing the document. If you can help update the 2.0 guide with a better description, I sure would appreciate it since there's nothing on webdav in help.
