Oh for the simpler times, e.g., last week(!), when your statement was
unequivocally true.
See this notice on the download page for 2.0rc: "** NOTE: For right now,
Windows user will have to remove older Beta and developer builds prior
to the installation of the RC because of an incorrect interpretation of
their version information by the Windows Installer. As a matter of
course the stable version OpenOffice.org 1.1.x (most recent: 1.1.5) can
be used concurrently."

When upgrading, as long as you install the new version into a new
directory, there should be no problems. You can run two versions of
OOo along side each other quite happily.
When you get around to uninstalling the old version, you can uninstall
then delete the old directory. There is an uninstaller built into the
product - so that should be simple.

Thanks Paul. I am new to this. I spent lots of money on MS Office a few
years ago. I hope one day this kind of software is widespread. One more
question, so when I do need to upgrade and install the new version I want,
do I have to delete the old version manually? If so that seems tricky since
I am just a regular user and not an expert at this computer stuff. Someone
should come up with an installer and removal utility for this. Should be
easy enough compared to writing this office suite program.

The production version of OOo is 1.1.5 - I would select to download
that version from this page : www.openoffice.org.
That will take you to a page where you need to answer 3 questions.
Operating sysetm, language and mirror site. The operating system
question you choose is 'windows'. There are no variants based on type
of windows OS (until you get to win95 - but we won't go there)...
As to upgrading. There is no auto-update functionality. When a new
version comes out you will have to download and install.
Have fun...

I really am excited about using your software. I like your community based
free software model. I have a PC using windows xp. Which version should I
download and if I download a version do you have upgrades that seamlessly
update my software?
