Jan-Peter, I experienced the same with an error message 'file did not exist' when trying to open a file on my Server (win2k) using OOo 2.0 Beta2 on my Win98SE workstation. I've tried this on two Win98SE workstations with same result.
But I have no problem with OOo 2.0 Beta2 opening the same file from a Win2000 Workstation. Are you using Windows 98?
