well, it works just the same with 1.1.x ;)
and it has worked since i started using them. i don't remember exactly
when was that actually and i don't have any 1.0.x installation to test
wether this functionality was available back then (but i believe it was)
note that i prefer fontwork not fontwork gallery as it is much, much
more flexible (though fwgallery might be easier to use at first if you
came from wordart, which it tries to copy)

for fontwork objects you easily can change almost all parameters as for
the normal text.
in both 1.1.x and pre-2.0 just select the text in edit mode and apply
parameters, including font
