Whoo-hooo John, you just laid down "the gauntlet"! You'll likely see some replies now. ;-) It is an EXTREMELY RARE application indeed that does not have it's free counterpart! I do this for a living - and my clients are never disappointed in the alternatives I provide for them. My clients do not CARE what the cost is - they want the best - and I provide it to them from the OpenSource world. I'll pick it up on the GPS atlas item: A good place to start is ALWAYS sourceforge. If you can dream it, somebody else has built it. More importantly, with your skills, you can help improve it too!
