Thanks, Dan but...
As I said in my post, I (colin) am the owner of
/export/home/colin. I really would have problems
doing anything on my computer if I couldn't write to
my home directory. I am not a user who does anything
as root unless it is absolutely necessary. I was
taught this when I first learned UNIX admin some 15
years ago..
Here is what comes out when I do a directory listing:
garcia% ls -l /export/home
total 24
drwxr-xr-x 50 colin other 3072 Oct 16 07:18
colin
drwxr-xr-x 18 kim other 1024 Oct 14 17:16
kim
drwx------ 7 root root 8192 Apr 26 20:01
lost+found
garcia%
The machine name "garcia" is from my habit of naming
Sun machines after dead rock stars, my other home Sun
is "elvis". As you probably know, when I enter the
command "ping elvis", the system responds: "elvis is
alive". I think this is cute.
I am still at a total loss as to what to look for
next.
Any other suggestions?
Colin.
