You can put the home directories wherever it pleases
you. /home is a common place, /users is very common
on HPUX systems. I started using /export home way
back in SunOS 4.1.x days, when SunOS was very BSD
like. I always add new users via the command line -
old habits die hard...

drwxr-xr-x 3 root sys 512 Apr 26 20:02
export
Before you ask me:
garcia% ls -l /export
total 2
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 512 Aug 26 13:46
home
garcia%
I wouldn't allow users other than root to write to
/export or /export/home, sice only root is supposed to
create new user accounts.

/export/home/colin/OpenOffice.org1.1.4, owned by colin
and with permissions drwxr-xr-x, and
/export/home/kim/OpenOffice.org1.1.4, owned by kim and
with permissions drwxr-xr-x.
GID for both colin and kim is "staff".
The ownership, group and permissions were set up
automatically when installing as colin and kim
respectively.
Thanks again, eagerly awaiting the next suggestion.
Colin.
