I assume that when you switched from MS Office to OOo, that you switched
from Windows to Linux. Is this correct? I guess this because I suspect
that you can not run MS Office on Suse. So, is the problem the print
drive that you are using for Linux, or is the problem OpenOffice.org?
I am just guessing, of course, but perhaps you should use a different
driver?
I am able to print from OOo to an hp color LaserJet 4650dn (I just
bought it). I printed a couple hundred color brochures for church. To
print each double sided page was less than 20 seconds. If I do not use
duplexing, things are much faster yet. In general, all of my HP Laser
printers support post script directly, and they all print pretty fast.
If you take a look here:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Printing-HOWTO/printers.html
The 1170 is listed as partially supported under linux, which means "You
can print, but maybe not in color, or only at a poor resolution. See the
online listing for information on the limitation."
Do you need to stay with a dot matrix printer? If so, I see the
following printers in the fully supported catagory for Linux.
LQ-24
LQ-500
LQ-570+*
LQ-850
LQ-2550
Before I purchased my new cool printer, I called my friend Mike, the
Linux guru and he told me to checkout
http://www.linuxprinting.org/
I found their databse:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi
and went from there....
I really hope that this helps...
