If in XP go to WINDOWS EXPLORER/TOOLS/FOLDER OPTIONS/FILE TYPES. Click on
the type of file you want to change such as XLS. You will see the "Details
for "xls" extension". Click CHANGE and you will see the options you can
select. Reselect MICROSOFT OFFICE EXCEL/OK all the way out. After that all
your EXCEL files will open in EXCEL. 

You can do the same with any other extension, such as DOC, etc.  

This is one thing that irritated me a bit about OPEN OFFICE. You will find
that your DOC will open in OO until you make the change as above. Rick
