And what is the language you use in your template?  You can check very
quickly by highlighting a character or word and right-clicking to bring
up the context menu. Select Character and look for the language you have
set as default for your document.

May I suggest that you have a look at the User guides available from
http://documentation.openoffice.org/ for other ideas.
