I would recommend that you do the following:
1) Check the md5sum of your download:
md5sum OOo_2.0.0_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz
2) Check the number you get against the md5sum listed on the OOo web site
(link is on the download page). If it is the same number, proceed. Otherwise,
you have a corrupt file, and you need to start over with another download.
3) Since you have extracted the files, enter the RPMS folder.
4) Become root by entering the "su" command and entering your root password.
5) rpm -ivh *.rpm (This will show the progress of the installation.)
6) Enter the "desktop-integration subfolder.
7) rpm -ivh openoffice.org-redhat-menus-2.0.0-3.noarch.rpm (This creates the
links in the Menu to OOo.)
This is what I do when I install this program on my Mandriva Linux OS. (I
use openoffice.org-mandriva-menus-2.0.0-3.noarch.rpm instead of the redhat
one because that is my OS.) I have no problems with this.
This places OOo in the /opt/ openoffice2.0 folder. To start OOo the first
time, use this command from the command line:
exit (This will return you from the root user to your personal user account.)
Then use this command:
/opt/openoffice.org2.0/program/soffice (This will run OOo for the first
time.)
Dan
/opt/openoffice.org2.0/program/
