Hi Pete,
You'll need to use the Windows ODBC database administrator to set up the connection to your database. In Win98, you'll find that in the control panel. Win2k and XP have it under 'administrative tools'. There's a good step by step tutorial available. http://www.openoffice.org/FAQs/ms-access/ms-access.html

One limitation of the Base connection to MS access files is that you can't paste a column of data from a spreadsheet into a column of records. This is something you can do in MS access.

A non-profit organization I work with is trying to wean itself of Microsoft Office.

However, they have a number of significant and active Access
databases. Will they be able to work with them through BASE? (I
looked through the online documentation but it requires more
knowledge about Access than I possess.)

Thanks.

Yes. You can connect directly to the Access data bases using ODBC.

Alternatively, depending on the complexity of the databases you can
change the databases over to the native OO format and access them
entirely within OO.

I believe that they are pretty simple.

Using the DB Wizard, I see I have a choice of opening an existing database or connecting to one.

If I choose "open", and click "Tables", it says "the connection to the data source could not be established". More > Informations shows
"jdbc: "

If I choose "connect", it wants an existing ODBC database.

What have I done wrong?

Thanks.
