Hi David,
Here's that link:

Hi David,
Before you can open or modify the MS database, you'll need to register
the files as data sources with the odbc administration tool, then
register the database in OOo. There are very clear instructions for
this on a page that's linked to from openoffice.org. I don't seem to
be able to get there right now. I have the link at home, though. I'll
send it later on tonight.

I have Microsoft Office Professional 2003 SP2 installed on my
computer at
work, which is my church office where I am office administrator. Open
Office 2.0 was recommended to me as a viable alternative to MS
Office, and
so far there do not seem to be any problems with the Writer
componant, which
is the one I have fished around most in. However, I have had some
problems
with the database componant.
I am running Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 on a Dell Dimension
2600 with
a 2.8 gigaherz Intel Pentium 4, 1 gig of RAM, and a 145 gig hard
drive using
NTFS file system which currently has 124 gig free space.
I have had two problems.
The first was encountered trying to create a new database using the new
database wizard. When I got to the end of the 8 steps and clicked
finish,
it just sat there.
The second is more of an issue right now, as it really interferes
with the
reason for using OO to begin with.
I tried this morning to open the MS Access dabase that I do the most
work
with, which is the main membership list for our church. It's not a
complicated database at this point in its development. There is only
one
table, one form and a couple of queries and reports. Nothing
complicated,
yet when I tried to open it, I got the following message:
"Connection to
database could not be established. Connection to external data
source could
not be established. Unknown error. Driver is probably defective."
While the writer and presentation componants seem to be in good working
order, it looks like there are still a few glitches in the database
module.
Can you offer any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks,
Dave Roth
PS - I attempted to open another even smaller database - the
attendance list
of this summer's vacation Bible school - fewer than 50 records in a flat
file database. I got a window with language information, and then it
opened
a writer window with 3,000 pages of garbage in it.
