Hi Keith, I had this problem under Ubuntu initially as well. It seems that the debian version uses some libraries that conflicted when I installed Inkscape. The package manager kindly fixed it all up, but caused a broken package and the above error. If I re-installed the core4u package of OpenOffice.org it worked (but killed Inkscape). Solution: Downloaded OpenOffice.org2.0 from the main site and did an alien on it and installed it without issue and have no problems.
