oooohoooOOOO--OOO. (something similar to the guy from cheechnchong : up in smoke).

this is a known problem and i think there are several issues for each part of it.

1. oo.org ui freezes when downloading linked components (you can not continue working while oo.org downloads them in the background;

2. oo.org, as far as i can tell, downloads only one object at a time (though this probably is the smallest problem...);

3. oo.org issues no-cache or something similar, so that even if you had all that stuff in squid cached, it still will be downloaded again...

4. for some *&%#%&*!# reason oo.org likes to redownload (of course, not using the cache) pictures if they were not visible and you scroll so that they become visible (this doesn't happen always, but quite a lot of time).

all together creates quite a pain situation to work with linked objects.

if you leave it for long enough, it will download them and you should be able to do some work - but don't try scrolling...

oh, and you may add 5., too - if for some reason proxy server is not accessible (for example, not configured), it seems that oo.org tried each object anew and timeout is pretty long. it would be better in this case if it would notice that proxy is not accessible and simply stop trying...

basically 1. makes it look like oo.org has hung, 3&4 makes it such a pita that lately i have been trying to find some workarounds.

most, if not all, of these problems are reported and some of them - quite a time ago. my computer is pretty busy right now, so i can not search for the issues, but you should be able to find them in issuezilla

How are you inserting these parts from a web site? It is very possible that the problem is probably a result of the picture being linked on the web site. But without knowing how you are inserting the picture, it is a little difficult to explain what to do to avoid this problem again.

For example, I want to copy a table with picture in an OpenOffice document. The Website could look like this:

Some useless text.
------------------
| <pic> | <text> |
------------------
| <pic> | <text> |
------------------
| <pic> | <text> |
------------------
| <pic> | <text> |
------------------
More useless text.

If i try to copy the Table OOo freeze, but without pictures in the table everything works fine.

Thanks,
 Patrick
