Hi. I'm running RHEL WS v4 on a Dell Pentium D. RHEL v4 had OOo 1.1.2 on
it, but I need to upgrade to get the improved Word compatibility. Here's
what I did:

rpm -ev (the three previously installed OOo RPMs)
downloaded the new RPMs and extracted the directory
rpm -Uvih *rpm
cd desktop-integration/
rpm -Uivh openoffice.org-redhat-menus-2.0.0-3.noarch.rpm

No errors or warning were reported during this process. Then I tried to
run it:

rehash
openoffice.org-2.0 &

Nothing happens -- nothing is visible, and no error messages are
reported. However, ps reports:

0 S harlan 10463 25514 0 84 0 - 13187 pipe_w 11:22 pts/4
00:00:00 /bin/sh /etc/openoffice.org-2.0/program/soffice
0 S harlan 10472 10463 0 85 0 - 7419 pipe_w 11:22 pts/4
00:00:00 /etc/openoffice.org-2.0/program/javaldx

What's going on? How do I track down the problem? Thanks,

Is this RPMs downloaded from http://openoffice.org or are they rpms from RedHat directly ?

These are from openoffice.org. Some further googling seems to show that, in fact, the official RPMs work for 32-bit x86 processors only. This does not seem to be indicated anywhere on the OOo download page. If, in fact, this is the case, someone should probably add that information to the download page for Linux. (In addition, that's a pretty important port, what with the increasing number of people using 64-bit chips with Linux...)

I'm asking the Redhat people too...

Thanks,

-Harlan
