the bottom of the column doesn't change! I have had to recorrect such
totals, initially be rewriting them completely, but have since discovered
that merely removing and re-entering the equal sign does the trick. But such
a trick should not be needed at all (It wasn't needed in Lotus)

What is the exact formula, at the bottom of the column? Is it a
=sum(cell:cell) format? Or are you specifying individual cells? Can you
give a specific situation: where are you inserting a new row and the new
data, and the formula? You should NOT have to re-enter or correct a formula
for a column's total just because you inserted new data, unless you are
inserting the data outside the range of the formula.
