Well, it is not that obvious at all -- for example Pivot table (and maybe some other tools as well) can use ODBC as their source directly. Also, if you want to analyze such huge amount of data, then you would be probably much better served with some real statistical package, and if you want to stay on cheap (or you just like open source software), then I would suggest R <http://cran.r-project.org>, which is an open-source equivalent of S-plus.
