Well, before I actually created them, I modified the first record and then clicked on the button to synchronize and then the change was applied to all of the labels.

I thought I finally had it all figured out, how save mail merge files (for example, mailing label files) so they can be viewed and edited.

What I have found is that the process that I described a few days ago does in fact work well as far as giving you a file that can be viewed. Editing it, however, doesn't work real well, depending on what the specific edits are.

The first thing I attempted to do was globally change the font style. I attempted to select text by clicking and dragging, but found that I could only select one record that way. So I used Ctrl+A to select all. After hitting it twice (the first time it selected the record I was in, the second time it selected all of the records), things seemed to be working, in that everything was highlighted. Then I tried making a change to the font. It did not get changed in any of the records, even though all were highlighted.

Then I decided the labels would look better if I applied a slight indent to all of the text, to move it a little bit away from the very edge of the label. I tried Format > Paragraph and changed the indent before text to 0.05". This totally botched up everything (no longer had the right number of records per row; instead of three records per row, there were two records in the first row, one record in the second row, and so on.)

Each individual record can be edited (font changed, indent changed), it's just that they have to be done one at a time.

There also didn't seem to be any way of affecting the font or any other formatting during the label creation process. (Using File > New > Labels)

The only way I can determine to change the font of labels, short of editing them one at a time (not too practical), is to go to Tools > Options > OOo Writer > Basic Fonts.

Is there anything I'm missing as far as how to obtain a truly editable file of mailing labels? Or some other way to apply formatting when creating mailing labels?
