I don't have MS Works so I can't verify this, but I believe that one can save an MS Works spreadsheet in a format that MS Office and OpenOffice.org can open. I'm fairly sure MS Works can save as a CSV file. There may be other formats they can save in as well.

Can anyone who has MS Works verify the above?

Can I copy the info on a Works spreadsheet to Open Office, and if so,

Open Office is fine, but maybe Works isn't eligible for some reason?

There is currently no filter for importing MS works files into OOo. The
file format for MS Works is secret closed propriety format which MS
refuses to disclose. Many of MS's own programs are incapable of opening
Works files. Discovering the structure of MS file formats and reverse
engineering them demands a great deal of time, skill and resources. OOo
developers have limited resources and many demands for features and
enhancements to be added to an already fine program. There is an
existing RFE for this in Issuezilla
