You can download free PDFs of user guides from
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/
Printed copies of these guides, which are produced by
OpenOffice.org volunteers, are not in the stores because they do
not have ISBNs and so they don't get into the normal distribution
system for books. But even if they did have ISBNs and were in the
normal distribution system for books, it is up to the bookstore
to decide whether to keep any copies in stock (just as for
commercially published books).
You could ask your local bookstore to order in a few copies from
Lulu to have on display and for sale in the store.
