CTRL+End should move the cursor to the bottom.

Back in the last version, when I opened a document I'd been writing,
it opened with the cursor at the end of the piece.
Now, however, it opens at the beginning, forcing me to scroll down up
to twenty or more pages before I can start.
I have read the FM, but since I don't know the term used for this
particular function, it's kind of hard to ask for it. Doesn't seem
to be under "cursor", nor any obvious pace under "document."
Can anyone steer me in the right direction?
This works, but I'd like to have the thing open at the proper place.

This may be a nasty work around. Have you consider using a bookmark
until someone fixes this problem?
This thread is very interesting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but did we
not previously have a number of threads in this mail list about the
desirability of being able to open a document at the last placement of
the cursor? Didn't those conversations involve OOo's inability to do
so? Isn't this thread regarding the mirror image of those
conversations? Am I getting something mixed up here?
Since sometime back in OO1.14, I'd been opening my documents at the last
place I'd left off when I saved. With the new OO2, it won't work.
The biggest problem is that I don't know what I did back then to make it
work, and I couldn't respond to most of the thread you refer to because
I didn't have anything useful to say but "I've got it working, Don't
know how."
