I see this kind of thing very frequently on this list. I'll comment just this 
one time regarding the generic problem.

Caleb's answer is not enough for people who have to use dial up connection for 
downloads. What is needed is a separable download composed of a core module and 
individual application modules for Writer, Base, Impress, Math, Draw, and Calc. 
I realize that this would open the door to incompatibilities but it ought not 
to be that difficult to resolve that issue. Furthermore, this functionality 
should not be only for Windows users.
