MS Office 2003 is the latest version available. MS Word 2003 is available as a standalone purchase - http://www.microsoft.com/office/word/howtobuy/default.mspx It's more expensive than that Student-Teacher edition of MS Office - but it is available by itself. http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/howtobuy/student.mspx It's also more expensive than MS Works Suite 2006, which comes with Word, but it's Word 2002, not 2003. That might be the older versions you were talking about. But it's only one version behind, not 2 or more. http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=001 What's really wacky is, if you don't have any form of MS Word, MS Works, or MS Office on your computer or in your possesion, MS Word 2003 stand alone costs $229. But if you do, then it's only $109. What's so messed up about that is, MS Works 8 only costs $49.95. So it would be cheaper to buy Works and then "upgrade" to MS Word, than it would to just by Word by itself. The same is true for all their MS Office editions. Except for the Student-Teacher edition, which is what most end users buy anyway. It's the only one you can find at Walmart, (at any of the ones I go to, that is). The point is, (other than the quick update on the competition's pricing), that MS Word 2003 is indeed available by itself, as are Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook, FrontPage, Visio, Project, Publisher, InfoPath, etc.. http://www.microsoft.com/office/howtobuy/default.mspx So it's not good to claim otherwise. This isn't an attempt to say since MS does it, we should too (although the OP may have been saying that), I'm just saying that the individual apps of MS Office 2003, are indeed available separately. I'd like to thank the Google Toolbar on Firefox for its help in gaining me access to this information. -- - Chad Smith http://www.gimpshop.net/ Because everyone loves free software!
