Of course, OOo is a joke to you. You are using an operating system that
you do not like. That means you are not interested in learning how to use it
very well. The OOo download file is in a form that requires a modification
which is beyond what you want to learn about Debian Linux. That makes the
whole thing very frustrating for you. But you might want to ask what you need
to do with these *.rpm files instead of complaining.
I, on the other hand, am using another version of Linux by personal
choice. I have taken the time to learn how to use the operating system. So,
when something extra needs to be done, I take the time to learn how and then
do it. That is why I do not get frustrated.
Furthermore, there are people on this mailing list which use OOo on
Debian Linux with no problems. The request to update your kernel did not come
from OOo. I have run OOo using a Linux kernel that is 3-4 years old with no
problems.
