Just wanted to take a minute to tell you how truely horrible OpenOffice is.
I am running Debian Linux, not by choice, but because my office requires
it.
I attempted to apt-get the new OpenOffice but it wanted me to updated my
kernel which isn't broken.. so no, I will not update it.
I then downloaded OpenOffice from the website and it was a tarred up file
that contained 25+ .rpm files and not a single readme to tell me how to
install it. I have no clue what to do with these rpm files.
This is the epitomy of why Linux will never EVER EVER be used by the
average person. I was completely fooled into thinking your software would
help bridge the gap, it only made it much worse. 25 rpm files, what a
joke.
Of course, OOo is a joke to you. You are using an operating system that
you do not like. That means you are not interested in learning how to use it
very well. The OOo download file is in a form that requires a modification
which is beyond what you want to learn about Debian Linux. That makes the
whole thing very frustrating for you. But you might want to ask what you need
to do with these *.rpm files instead of complaining.
I, on the other hand, am using another version of Linux by personal
choice. I have taken the time to learn how to use the operating system. So,
when something extra needs to be done, I take the time to learn how and then
do it. That is why I do not get frustrated.
Furthermore, there are people on this mailing list which use OOo on
Debian Linux with no problems. The request to update your kernel did not come
from OOo. I have run OOo using a Linux kernel that is 3-4 years old with no
problems.

To add to this.
If you are running Debian as part of your work, and you don't know
what to do, then ask your IT department. They should be able to help
you. I do the same thing when it comes to doing things in
Windows/Office, which by the way I feel the same way about as you do
about Linux.
My 4 and 9 year olds, my wife and my 70+ father can all use Linux.
For what it is worth, many of the people I work with are using OOo on
both Linux and Windows as it works better for them than MS word.
