I have just recently started using the Database side of OpenOffice.org. Basically, I have a need that I think OpenOffice.org will be able to fill, but I am not sure. I have a large list of products which is, as of now, sitting inside of a spreadsheet. However, it is very tedious and difficult to go through a long list of products in an attempt to find exactly what you want. While I could work with this solution,

My question is simply what the best and fastest method is for achieving my desired result. It needs to be easy to use, as it's something that everyone has to use here.

Various possibilities.
Have you tried 'Data|Sort' or 'Data|Filter|Autofilter' in Calc?

The main issue is that it is still a little clumsy to try to use a spreadsheet, and it's not nearly as easy as letting someone just have their own dialog.

Also: you can build a form in writer, for the datasource that you seem to have found already (F4) (which in fact is the same spreadsheet).
And use a combobox for the look-up of certain data.

Now, I am not sure how this works. How would I use comboboxes for certain look-ups? I don't understand how to use forms for searching for data, I have only seen it used for entering data.

Note that you can also set Filter and Sort options in the data-source window.

Again, a lot of work compared to where I want to be.

Even more: you can build a base-application, with more specific features in it. However, that some more work than Filter and Sort ;-)

Indeed. :-/
