Never owned a Mac, but others might be able to answer the Mac Question. If
it's possible (and I think it is) to install OOo on a Mac, I can answer
those other questions:
If you write a document in OOo (OpenOffice.org) and save it in a MS Office
format (*.doc, *.xls, *.ppt etc) or *.rtf etc, then you can open it with
MS Officen (Word, Excel, Powerpoint or whatever is the appropriate one).
MS Office does not support OOo, but OOo supports MS Office, with a few
exceptions (like VBA macros etc).
Yes, it's free of charge.

Good afternoon,
I was told about Open Office last week. I am planning to buy an Ibook G4
(Mac OS X 10.4) and I am wondering: would the installer support that
kind of computer ? If I write a document in Open Office and I forward it
onto a computer that uses Microsoft Word, would it be able to read it ?
I also understand that downloading your product is free of charge. Am I
correct ?
Thanking you in advance for your time.
Best regards,
G. Bolduc
