I am using version 2.0 of OpenOffice.org.  My problem is:

First.  I am trying to cut and paste a table from/to another cell within the 
master table.  I place the cursor in the subtable.  I go to menu item TABLE, 
submenu SELECT, Entire Table.  The subtable appears to be selected.  I then 
click on CUT on the tool bar.  The cut appears to cut only the text from within 
the subtable, leaving the empty cells of the subtable.  However, I can paste 
outside of the master table (in the body of the document, below the master 
table) and the whole subtable will appear.  I cannot find a way to delete the 
subtable, other than deleting the row that contains it.  When put the cursor in 
another cell of the master table and click on PASTE from the tool bar (or 
ctrl-ins on the keyboard) nothing gets pasted.

Second.  I am trying to copy the subtable to another cell of the master table.  
I select and copy the subtable as before.  When I paste, the subtable does not 
appear.  The cursor returns to the original subtable that I copied.  Again, if 
I paste outside the master table, the subtable appears as desired.

I have a lot of tables to replicate and slightly modify.  I am hoping I do not 
have to re-create the basic small table every time.
