You would think so, huh? But this is one of those cases where reality doesn't square with theory. The simple fact is that I've long, long since lost track of how many people get bitten in the a** by this.

There exists a large class of users who are perfectly capable of productively using software, but for whom installation is right at the edge of their computer competency.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I believe the whole business of changing file associations -- particularly at install time -- is way more trouble than it's worth.
